What is implant treatment?
Implants are titanium screws that are placed in the jawbone when one or more teeth are lost for various reasons. Implants can be used both in cases of tooth loss due to fixed dentures and to ensure the stability of removable dentures.
In which cases should implants be done?
The most ideal method for treating tooth loss is implants. In case of one or more tooth loss, implant treatment should be performed to restore the chewing function of the person.
What are the advantages of implants?
One of the advantages of implants is that while single tooth deficiencies are corrected with bridge treatments, healthy teeth next to the missing tooth must be abraded, this is not necessary with implant placement. In addition, removable dentures used in cases where many teeth are missing or all teeth are lost cannot provide sufficient satisfaction in terms of aesthetics and comfort. With implant placement, people can regain healthy teeth, which is one of the most important advantages of implants. Implants can sometimes be used together with removable dentures. In this case, another advantage of implant treatment is that removable dentures remain fixed during chewing and speaking.
How does the implantation process work and how long does it take to complete?
Implant treatment consists of two stages: surgery and prosthesis. The first stage is the surgical stage where the implants are placed in the jawbone. This stage is performed with the open or closed method, depending on the patient’s jaw structure and the treatment plan created. In the open method, the gums need to be stitched after the procedure. In the closed method, there is no need to stitch the area where the implant is placed. Although it is sometimes possible to place a prosthesis on the implant immediately after the surgical procedure, in most cases, depending on the condition of the jawbone, it is necessary to wait for the jawbone to heal. It usually takes 3 to 6 months for the jawbone to heal. If there are no problems at the end of this period, the prosthesis stage is completed and the prosthesis is permanently attached to the implant.
